TYPICAL DAY
ARRIVAL: An arrival activity will be out on the tables for children as they arrive. The activity may be manipulatives, free-play, a library or table activity. This allows the teacher to welcome each child into the class every day.
OPENING ACTIVITIES: Opening prayer, pledge of allegiance, flag songs, calendar, weather, letter of the week (number, color, etc.)
LESSON: Activities relating to monthly theme or holiday.
ALPHABET TIME: 20 minutes – The alphabet teacher directs each class in alphabet related activities on a daily basis.
FREE PLAY: Within the classroom the children are free to choose an activity from the manipulatives, blocks, computer, housekeeping center, etc. At the end of the scheduled time, everyone participates in putting the toys away.
BATHROOM TIME: This is unscheduled time and children are encouraged to use the bathroom whenever necessary, although they are reminded frequently during the early weeks of school.
ART WORK: Art projects will be chosen for appropriateness to the unit of study or holiday. These projects are age appropriate and are designed for student completion.
OUTSIDE: Outside play is a regular part of the daily schedule. If the weather does not permit outdoor play, children will have a chance to either go down to the lobby or stay in their rooms for indoor games.
SNACK TIME: After hands are washed children take turns passing out snack items and supplies according to the assignments on the helper chart. The person responsible for bringing the snack is listed on a monthly snack calendar sent home by the teacher. Please remember we are peanut butter and peanut free.
CHAPEL TIME: Normal chapel time is Tuesday/Friday mornings from 11:30-11:50 AM and Friday afternoon at 12:30-12:50 PM.
PREPARE FOR HOME: Students place any papers that need to be taken home in their backpacks, and then proceed to the lobby to wait quietly with their class for their ride home.
Our class scheduling is flexible and is determined by the individual teachers and staff members involved. There will always be times when schedules are interrupted for special activities and events.
