Correspondence

A yellow mailbox has been set up near the front door for students and parents to place all correspondence for the school (permission slips, book orders, tuition payments, pick-up changes, etc.). Notes will be delivered to the teacher or office staff as soon as school begins. Please use the mailbox rather than your child’s backpack. Teachers do not go through backpacks so please make sure to either place your correspondence in the yellow mailbox or email it.

We will send all school papers home in your child’s backpack so please be sure to check it every day.

Conferences and Evaluations

During the Cox’s Farm field trip teachers will spend a few minutes briefly talking with each parent about how their student is adjusting to school. In January teachers will meet with each parent for an informal verbal conference on the child’s progress in school. Written evaluations may not be sent home at this time. Phone conferences can be set up for parents who can not come in on this date.

We realize that parents want frequent updates on the progress of their children. Each parent is encouraged to volunteer in their child’s classroom as often as they are able. In addition, all teachers have 20 minutes set aside during their day where they are available to speak with parents.

Final written evaluations will be sent home to parents in May. All children are evaluated on the basis of social and gross motor skills, work habits, and language development. Four year olds are also evaluated for fine motor skills and kindergarten readiness. Additionally, teachers will confer with parents during the year about individual progress as needed.

Field Trips

One of the highlights of our Preschool Program is our special outings to enhance our study units. Each child must have an adult chaperone for field trips because our insurance prevents us from providing transportation. Stepping Stones will pay field trip fees for one child and one adult for Cox’s Farm and Tiny Tots Holiday Concert. In addition, Stepping Stones will pay any fees associated with special programs such as Puppet Shows, Storytellers, or Musicians that perform at the school.
